Blog theme: A Lesson a Day Keeps the Devil at Bay

In talking with friends about how we know God is real, I heard many stories conjured up from years before. An event that happened when Jane was 14 that convinced her God cared or a situation that Jon got through 8 years ago that wouldn't have been possible without God's intervention. I know those are big, life-changing lessons, real faith-forming stones, but what about the daily lessons? The little ones that come more from a relationship with God than a coming-to-faith event. I know God talks to me daily, and they are profound mini-lessons on his character or advice for my life. Unfortunately, those pass right through my short-term memory if I don't write them down or verbally express them to another person.
This blog is in response to this -- an acceptance of the challenge to write down the daily lessons that the Lord is teaching me. May it be a testimony to others of God's "mercies being new every morning" and his presence in and care for everyday life. And to my own benefit, may having my ears open to the lesson God has for me each day keep the devil at bay from trying to convince me that God doesn't care.

I encourage you to take up the challenge too!

Blessings!

Hot Body!!

Posted by Dawn Thiessen on Thursday, August 25, 2011, In : Self
It's bathing suit season and the desire to look good or give up and cry stares us in the face. This experience made 1 Corinthians 15:43 stand out to me: "Our bodies now disappoint us, but when they are raised, they will be full of glory" So, I'm not saying we should let loose and give up caring for our health or bodies, but to not be obsessed with changing it.
My hot body will be in heaven!

I am just like the Apostle Paul

Posted by Dawn Thiessen on Friday, August 5, 2011, In : Self
You may think I am getting too cocky now, too proud and "high and mighty" comparing myself to Paul. But where I really see our similarities is in Romans 7:21-25: "It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God's law with all my heart. But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind. This law wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will fre...

My Dream Job is in Heaven!

Posted by Dawn Thiessen on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : Self
I was picking weeds today and my mind started to wander and think of what life would be like without them. What was the original creation like before the fall? before the weeds? God placed Adam in the garden "to work it and take care of it" (Genesis 2:15) -- He was created to work. After the "fall" God said to Adam, "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all of the days of your life." (Genesis 3:17b)
So now we live in a state where work is a pain. W...

I'm good at it!

Posted by Dawn Thiessen on Monday, April 25, 2011, In : Self

This while ago a girlfriend of my was encouraged after a night out at a club. "Still got my game!" is what she exclaimed. She has previously condemned herself for being a flirt but now says, "I'm really good at it." This reminded me of my brother when he was young and started stealing candy from the corner store. He knew it was wrong but he also knew he was really good at it and not getting caught, "God has given me this ability" is what he said. I also remember from my own life feeling like ...
