In the beginning God created the heaven's and the earth. On the seventh day he rested from his work, (sanctifying the Sabbath) is he still resting now? I realize that I have been thinking that all along. The way I envision God is so limited, but it is often Him sitting on his throne in heaven where angels come to Him and then are sent. The Sabbath was created for man, not man for the Sabbath (as Jesus said). We need rest in the week to keep from focusing too hard on our work and our little lives instead of the things of God and His kingdom.
These thoughts were clarified when I read John 5. Jesus had healed a paralytic man on the Sabbath, that man had been waiting by a pool with a lot of other invalids for years. So, when he was healed he joyfully picked up his mat and walked away. He got in trouble by the religious leaders for breaking the Sabbath rule. They eventually found out that Jesus had healed the man so they turned their anger to him. "So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. In his defense Jesus said to them, 'My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.' For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God." John 5:16-18. These verses showed me that God is working and never stops and that we definitely messed up the message of the Sabbath in the past as "everyone" was obeying all the Sabbath rules except for Jesus and God all along.
In conclusion, I am happy to serve a God who is working hard along side me and on things above me too and I need a Sabbath day or time each day to focus on God's work not my own.
